good to see you moving all those gears my little auto factory
shoving out machinery like giving birth to tag-sale twins
i’ll meet you when your palms don’t ache, your hair starts growing
and you lose your breath with a roof above your head
i see you dye your toes and ink your fingers
and dress yourself in sunflowers and twigs
please don’t shake, my arms can lift you up now
don’t trace my veins, just claw at my skin
whatever happened
to snow on the balcony
spilling inside as i lie down in bed
and that lightning pouring through me
and crackling my limbs
in some book, now, described
is that mess from my head
“short squeak,” you read it,
“you’re nothing compared to
the one that showered today”
you throw it down, sulking now
restless for space
while i’m up in my treehouse and staring you down
and between us the streets are all tied down with traffic
the blood-clotted veins leave me pulsing and cold
but i’m not content with a half-empty tank
so i ride on everyone else’s expense
